Looking at the map while planning this trip, I spotted a Florida state park along the northern coast of the state. Seemed like a good stopping point on the trip home. Not knowing anything about it, I reserved a night at Tomoka State Park in Ormand Beach, just north of Daytona. What a pleasant surprise to arrive and find a very woodsy campground with serpentine sandy roads lined with nook-like campsites. Perfect for cozy privacy.
This tree-tunnel road leads to the park.
GoJoe snug as a bug.
A short walk through the woods behind the campsite leads to a small waterway.
Downstream is the Tomoka River.
Tracey walks along a trail through the dense foliage called "hammock."
Like Welaka Resort and Blue Spring State park, where we stayed on our way south, Tomoka lies in a lushly foliated part of northern Florida, a region we'd like to revisit for a longer stay.
