Down on the Bayou

OK, I'm a real RVer now. For the last two nights I've stayed at a place well known to many RVers around the country - Betty's RV Park in Abbeville, Louisiana. It's famous because of Betty, the effervescent owner and manager. When Betty retired early around ten years ago, she thought about what she might want to do with her free time. Why not open an RV park? she thought. And she did - right in her back yard. Today, you can find up to fifteen RVs parked in the gravel lot behind and beside her house just outside Abbeville, deep in the heart of Cajun country.

Everyone is entertained and advised by Betty, who oversees her domain with enthusiasm and great care. She's the hostess at happy hour and other social events, she provides counsel on local attractions replete with expert directions on how to get there, and she's a wonderful ambassador for her local Cajun culture and its music and cuisine. Some folks literally stay for months here at Betty's. I've met them and many others at the afternoon happy hours and at the potluck dinner we shared tonight under the awning on Betty's patio.

And here's Betty ...

Space was found for GoJoe on the "other" side of the house as Betty's was technically full. I'm glad she made space for me.

Hope you have GoJoe stocked with some Tums or Rolaids for all that cajun food. BTW I thought I'd pass this link along as it was suggested to me the other night, looks to be another good way to find some nice camping spots: http://www.recreation.gov/ It's run by the government so it must be good, right? :)
